In late 1945, Joe Stuart returned to Memphis after serving in WWII and married his long time sweetheart Janet Prechter. In 1946, they moved to El Dorado and opened Stuart’s Typewriter Company. From scratch, they built a very successful office equipment company, serving south Arkansas. in 1973, Stuart’s Typewriter Co. became Stuart’s, Inc.
In late 1975, Richard Stuart opened Stuart’s Business Equipment in Shreveport. Initially selling only Victor calculators, he slowly began adding more products until Stuart’s was a complete office products company, growing into one of the largest in the area.
